The Intimacy Dimension

Patterns

There are two problematic patterns in the Intimacy Dimension—Dependent and Intimacy-Avoiding. You may click on each link to learn more about the pattern and then decide if you want to explore it, now or later.

The Dependent Pattern involves relying on your partner to take care of you and make you feel OK about yourself. This can make it hard to leave a relationship that isn't right for you.

The Intimacy-Avoiding Pattern involves not being very open to intimacy while in a love relationship.

Capacities

There are two complementary healthy capacities in the Intimacy Dimension--Intimacy and Self-Support. You may click on each link to learn more about the capacity and then decide if you want to work on developing it, now or later.

The Intimacy Capacity involves the ability to be close to your partner through affection, sharing, sex, love, and caring.

The Self-Support Capacity involves being able to take care of yourself and feel solid and good, whether or not you are getting your needs met by your partner or even if you aren't in a relationship.
